Arrived later in the afternoon to avoid heat and crowds. Still pretty hot and humid at the start but it is a pretty trail. Would like to come back
in the fall to see if any of the leaves change.

Looping the Mystic Trail with Hogwash makes for a short and sweet hike with great views, especially at sunset. We had actually tried to go to the Airport Loop but it was totally overcrowded with cars waiting for parking spots. Mystic has a shoulder area that maybe 4 or 5 cars could park and there was only 1 when we got there. Really glad I found this little trail. Gatsby loved it. Yes, he did go off leash a few times because we only saw a few other people and he was loving life. : )

Perfect weather. Lots of brittlebush everywhere with pockets of lupine and Mexican poppies. Hedgehog cacti are just starting to bloom.

Nature played an April fools joke on us and the temperature dropped 10 degrees from the forecasted 70 to 60 with some crazy wind gusts half-way through. But it was better to be a little chilly than hot. Lots of flowers. Not a ton of water running at the falls, but still pretty.

All of the brittlebrush are in bloom and some type of legume-family shrub with pale yellow flowers was everywhere. Isolated cacti blooms and some Mexican poppy and others.

I wish I had taken my camera, but the batteries were dead. The forest was gorgeous post-rain, but of course the trail was a mess. Still fun though. All the New Mexico locust flowering, along with the yellow columbine, made it feel like we had left Arizona. We didn't actually make it the last mile due to time constraints, but a great hike overall.

Soldier's Pass to Brins Mesa and looped around via Cibola Pass. Excellent weather. Not too much traffic on the trail, but getting through town was a bit of a bear. Lots of cliff roses in bloom and prickly pear too.

Beautiful day at Seven Falls. Weather was perfect in the mid 70s with a really cool breeze. Parking lot was crowded but 90% of people were going to Sabino Canyon not Bear Canyon. Few loud 20-somethings at the falls, but not enough to ruin it. Falls were just a trickle, still pretty though.

So many bugs!!! Weather was perfect but the little gnats were awful! You couldn't even stop for a second to get a drink or you were covered. Worst I've ever seen it on South Mountain.

Warm weather, but a lot cooler than Phoenix especially with the wind gusts. The parts of the trail that go around the skinny "legs" of the lake are very lush. Saw one bald eagle, but not the nests. The trail was diverted around the nesting area which added a little bit of distance onto the route. Pictures to follow...

Went out looking for wildflowers. The fiddlehead, popcorn flower, and scorpion weed were prevalent. A few isolated lupine, poppy, and chia. The hedgehogs look like they'll be ready in a couple more weeks.

Pretty warm out, in the upper 80s. Too many more days like this without another rain and the wildflower seeds will all be dead. I guess my standards for spring are set pretty high after last years amazing blooms.
