We had only intended on going to a spot about a mile in next to the river with a good cliff-jumping point, but accidentally took the wrong path at a fork in the road and ended up going further downstream. On the way back, we found our spot and had a great time!

Hiked out with the group to about 1.6 miles to a nice spot along the river with a good cliff-jumping spot. The water was quite mucky, but was refreshingly warmer than at our hike earlier in the day.

I took the day off of work to get in a nice and challenging hike before my birthday weekend. I was expecting less of a crowd on a weekday, but there was some 12-hour marathon in progress for someone named Grandpa Jim. I thought one run was tough, but some of these old timers showed me up by doing five, eight, or even eleven consecutive trips! I still did much better than I was expecting though and really did miss doing this trail!

The first mile was a bit rough on my feet in my Vibram FiveFingers with the loose rocks everywhere, but the views from the summit made up for it! I'd definitely do this trail again.

Wow, talk about difficult! I did the Shaw Butte-North Mountain loop posted here by another member and bagged both peaks in one trip. The only problem was that I missed the slightly easier trail to the top of North Mountain and ended up scaling the loose rocks and dirt on the side of the mountain instead. I had a small group of people exercising at the top watching my slow and methodical progress up the dangerous hillside and was jittery for the next 10 minutes downhill from the adrenaline rush.

This is probably my fifth trip back to this trail, and the views never get old. The river was completely dried up during this trip, which allowed me to cross to the other bank for the first time ever. I found the rusty remains of an old wheelbarrow on the other side, which I thought was really neat to see. Unfortunately due to my late start, I stopped here and turned back around.

The first mile was a great workout which made the rest of the hike worth it. There was something just so magical about the jaunt through the Hidden Valley too. I'll definitely be recommending this hike to friends and family!

I took the long way getting to the park thanks to construction on Ellsworth, but I enjoyed a nice loop around the park and even got to see some F-18s flying overhead too.

Brr! I totally forgot to bring a jacket and regretted it. I only managed to hike out just over 2 miles before it got too cold, windy, and late to go any further. Though I did manage to get lots of great pictures of amazing fall scenery.

Fall colors were just starting to come in and the view from the top of Little Mt Ord was amazing. I spent a little while just watching the cars on the 87 in the distance. A very easy and leisurely hike with absolutely no other hikers on the trail when I went.
