Accidentally took a turn up the Corona trail on the way back to the TH. Looks like it would be fun coming down, but wasnt so much fun going up!

From the San Gabriel TH, up San Gabriel Ridge to Guadalupe Ridgeline to Pima TH and back to San Gabriel TH on the Desert Classic. Total guess on mileage.

New Years day hike. Spent time hiking around the hoodoos and down the ridgeline trail a bit. A good number of people out today, luckily, most go to the flatiron and skip the peak. Guess they dont know the view facing east from the top is much better!

I took the day off work with the intention of canyoneering with a friend and burn the last of my vactions days at work. My friend backed out so I decided to check out this loop on my own. The weather was amazing and the views were awesome. I especially enjoyed the view of Weaver's Needle along the Bluff Spring Trail, but would rather go up cardiac hill than down it!

Took Friday off work and drug a friend along to check out another non-technical canyon up on the rim. Cached some water at the Maxwell trailhead and drove over to the Maxwell tank to drop in. Willow Valley starts of as a pretty nasty bushwhack down a small drainage, but soon opened up into an awesome Coconino sandstone canyon. A few short down climbs to the valley floor and a few minutes of boulder hopping brought us to the first of the 3 swims. Looked for the climbing route to the right mentioned in Canyoneering Arizona, but didn't find anything promising, so we sucked it up and got in the COLD water! We motored through the 3 swimmers quickly and got to boulder hopping through the gorgeous sandstone narrows to warm back up.

Once the valley opened up and the creek showed up it was back to bushwhacking on one side of the creek or the other or wading down the middle. At times the vegetation was very dense and left any exposed skin looking like a gang of alley cats attacked us, one plant we brushed by made us itch like crazy till we rinsed off in the creek. Stinging nettles maybe? Those creek miles feel so much longer than normal miles and it felt like took way too long to get to the Maxwell Trail, but it finally showed up.

We hiked up the Maxwell trail with only a small amount of water left and were very happy to have cached that gallon for the 3 mile road walk back to the truck. Awesome weather all day and a fun canyon. Can't wait to explore further down in WCC and see the White Box and Hanging Garden I keep hearing about!

Took a trip out to Wet Beaver Creek last weekend with a couple of buddies. We decided to do the out and back hike described on Todd's Hiking Guide. The 4 mile hike along the Bell Trail to the Crack was much warmer than expected at 7am, so the cool water was a welcome sight! Only 3 other people at the swimming hole this early, so we hung out, did some cliff jumping and swimming before packing up and heading up creek. Lots of boulder hopping and creek crossings before getting to the mandatory wades and swims. Early on we tried to avoid getting out feet wet and scrambled around on the sandstone ledges instead. While climbing up a ledge via a tree, I slipped and banged my knee drawing first blood of the trip and leaving a nice egg sized knob for the rest of the trip. Oh well, what am I gonna do? Turn around and miss the best stuff? Onward!

We brought along inner tubes, but decided to wade or swim the first couple pools instead of lugging around the pool toys. Slipping around on the algae covered rocks became annoying quickly though, so at the Balanced Rock we inflated the inner tubes and floated the rest of the pools. Floated and hopped our way through the Supai sandstone hallways in utter amazement at the brilliant colors and layers that surrounded us. Stopped in between the 2 best hallways for lunch and let a group of around 7 pass us. One of the group told us that the narrowest section lied ahead about 20 minutes or so, but that we were in the best spot of the trip at the moment, and I couldn't agree more.

With some menacing clouds rolling in, we decided to turn around there and high tail it back to the car to avoid getting caught in any inclement weather. Took a quick dip in the pools back at the Crack, which now had close to 20 people at 3pm, and took off on the Bell Trail for the truck. Passed a few more people heading to the Crack on the way out, including some only wearing flip flops, bikinis and carrying no water, and heard many more down in the creek south of the trail. The hike out was much nicer than the hike in thanks to some nice cloud cover and those menacing dark clouds rolling in from the east.

We had a great time at Wet Beaver Creek, only saw 2 other groups once we passed the Crack and surprisingly, we did not see much trash left anywhere, although there were a more than a few places were fire rings had been built next to the rock faces leaving permanent scars on the walls. ](*,). The out and back trip was nice, but next time I would like to do the through trip or the loop with the Apache Maid trail so I can experience all that WBC has to offer.
