Camped out this weekend on the west side of the Dragoons with a group of Boy Scouts. Area was busy this weekend. Sheriffs were training for search and rescue with a helicopter and groups kept getting lowered down on the rope. We did the Slavin Gulch trail in the afternoon on Sat with the goal of reaching the mine. Trail has a lot of spots where manzanita and other bushes are trying to take back the trail. Almost all made it to the mine. A few made it to where we could see the ore chute but did not want to come back in the dark so turned around just a bit short. Overall a nice day for a hike.

Day was warm, but there was decent flow of water running in the creek down the gulch.

Started at the Broadway trailhead and made a loop first going south via Shantz and then the Javelina Wash to pick up the Cactus Forest trail to the Lime Kilns and Lime Kiln Falls.

Tracking back north and staying on the Cactus Forest to make a loop to the east via Mesquite and Squeeze Pen to the Pink Hill trail. Nice views from the top of Pink Hill.

Had what looked to be a falcon land in a tree just to the edge of the Cactus Forest trail as we passed.

Went out with a group for a 10 mile loop around SNP East the day after the winter storm went through. A few muddy spots but overall great day for a hike. Lots of pools in the canyon near Garwood dam and in Wild Horse canyon. Passed a few horses on the Shantz trail portion and one mule on the Pink Hill section.

Warm Oct day hike starting at Prison Camp across the road and Bug Springs trail up to the Middle Bear Canyon picnic areas for lunch and then return. Lots of bear scat along the wooded section of trail in the appropriately named Bear Canyon.
