This is a beautiful hike! We took this on Saturday. We started late and moved slow due to some knee issues in the group, so we didn't make it back to our car until 9:30 p.m. Good thing we had headlamps! My favorite part about this hike was enjoying the beauty of the Peralta area and Weaver's needle in almost complete solitude (we went in the counterclockwise direction). We were concerned about making it to the Peralta trail before sunset, so we took the Weaver's Needle Crosscut instead of going around the base. That part was not easy, but there were some very cool rock formations to look at along the way.

Beautiful hike! Very rainy and misty which added to the atmosphere. The waterfall was breathtaking!

Beautiful views from this hike. This seems like a very cool area that I'd like to explore more in the future. The altitude on this one was a killer for me and we didn't have much time, so we made it to the ravine before the scree chute but decided to wait until next time to climb it. It's definitely on my list for future hikes though!

This hike was quite an experience, mostly because of the random events that converged to make an otherwise normal, beautiful hike through the superstitions painful to the point of being comical. This was the first time that I had hiked in a couple of weeks because I was recovering from having the flu the week before. I didn't sleep at all that night (my body always seems to do that whenever I actually need to sleep) and neither did my hiking partner (neither of us are morning people! ). I had scratched my eye the day before so I was forced to forgo my contacts and wear my glasses which have a two year old prescription and fall down my nose constantly. I, however, am not one to allow a few health inconveniences to slow me down. I was going on this hike. : rambo :

We drove out to Apache Junction and began seeing horse trailers and trucks everywhere. We had decided to go hiking in the Superstitions during the rodeo  I did this last year too! So, the First Water Trailhead was really busy and the trail had a lot of groups with horses. The trail itself is really interesting at the beginning and has some cool rock formations. We were took a beating from the sun, but other than that, we enjoyed the scenery.

At about 3 miles in, we decided to head back because my newly-recovered-from-the-flu lack of energy was getting the best of me. After about 20 minutes, I began to see what looked like heatwaves when I looked at the sun-reflected sand. I thought it was just my glasses causing visual distortions and ignored it. Then I realized a few minutes later that it was actually a visual aura and I was getting a migraine (haven't had one of those in years!). I hid under my hat headed down the trail, hoping that that I didn't start to get spot blindness. At that point, I was ready to surrender to my body. You win! I should have stayed home today! But then, we happened upon a snake (Not a rattle snake, I'm not sure what kind though. I uploaded a pic.) laying out and soaking up the sun on the trail. I was totally excited about this! I never see snakes when I'm out hiking. It made my day and made this crazy hiking excursion worth it. I hope to get back to this trail sometime and actually get a chance to check out the arch!

This was my first time caving :y: I've been wanting to go for years, so this was pretty exciting. A friend of ours who had been to the Peppersauce Caves many times acted as our guide. I was glad she was there. I think we would have been pretty lost without her. I'd definitely say the scariest part was when we climbed over the wet, slimy ladder :scared: on the passage to the book room. I was terrified that I was going to fall! The long, narrow uphill section on the way to the book room definitely takes some endurance in the arms and legs and some patience. I'm pretty petite and I was feeling cramped 8-[ Overall, the cave was very cool and I plan to go back soon. I think I'll bring a trash bag with me, since there is a serious amount of trash (and graffiti) in the cave :yuck: .

Note on the conditions: It's pretty dry in there right now. There was hardly any mud at all since it hasn't rained recently. It was also pretty busy on the day we went. We ran into an obnoxious group of teenage boys that were throwing fireworks in main room of the cave [-X . Luckily, they didn't stay long. We also ran into several other groups who were much more considerate of the other people in the cave.

This was an absolutely beautiful hike. Not an easy one though! Since the trail isn't very well worn, it wasn't always easy to find. There seem to be two trails, one that goes up the creek(nearly dry right now) and one that avoids it, so that got a bit confusing at times. The terrain is also difficult. Very soft dirt that tends to go sliding when you try to take a step, and lots of unstable rocks. It's also very steep in places and there is nothing to hold on to. I'd say that walking sticks/trekking poles are pretty much a necessity on this trail. My favorite part of the trail was climbing up the ropes along the creek. I felt pretty adventurous! Some of my hiking partners weren't feeling very well, so we didn't have time to make it all the way to the ruins on this trip. I definitely plan to go back and see them!

We only went on this trail for a couple of miles just to explore. We started out by the fish hatchery and saw some beautiful bald eagles up in a tree. After a while we went down the trail along Dick Williams creek instead of continuing on the Highline trail. It's A pretty area with a lot of interesting vegetation changes in a short period of time.

I took this one mid-week as a quick hike with some friends. Usery Mountain is one of my favorite parks and this trail always has a great sunset view.

After an accidental detour on the Hackberry Spring Loop (adding about 3 miles to our trip), we finally ended up on the correct trail and made it to Canyon Lake. This is a really cool hike. The scenery is just beautiful and changes quite a bit every time you turn a corner. My favorite part of the hike was when we made it into Boulder Canyon and were able to take in the beautiful scenery at sunset. We started out late and were moving slowly at the end due to the extra miles added by our detour, so we spent the last couple of hours hiking by headlamp. This wasn't too bad since the moon was bright and the last part of the trail was easy to see. The weather was also great (high of 73), so a light jacket was all I needed by the end.

We took this trail by accident today. We were trying to take the First Water Trailhead to Canyon Lake and ended up on this detour for a little over a mile and a half. Some nice campers helped to point us back in the right direction. A nice hike with varying terrain that I would definitely recommend checking out.

We only went about halfway this time since the elevation killed us. Beautiful views and very comfortable temps in the 60s!

We hiked from about 1:30 to 5:30. This is the perfect time of year for this hike. It was about 70 degrees and I even needed a light jacket when it was closer to sundown. This is definitely a popular trail, but most people were headed out as we went in since we started later. This trail is pretty much completely uphill on the way there and downhill on the way back. The views are worth it, though!
