Fun hike with the guys pretending to look for gold. A few good geocaches in the area to add some fun off the trail.

Early morning hike with Eunice and Natalie C. Beautiful, warm morning and in the shade for most of the ascent. Far more hikers coming up the trail on our descent between 8am-9am.

Few wildflowers in the sunnier parts of the canyon. Expecting quite a late Feb/early March due to the amount of water in the canyon.

Flowing quite a bit and the spring was flowing too. Could hear it coming up the canyon

Quick Saturday morning hike down in Tucson with Eunice, Jeffrey, and Boba. Nice flowing hike and in the shade up the canyon with an icy trail. Topping out, we sat along the creek that was flowing with cold runoff. Only downside was the incessant gunshots coming from up the canyon echoing off the canyon walls and down the trail.

Took the dog to the eastern terminus of #100 at Tatum. Took her about 2 miles in and turned around, working her up the ladder! Lots of mountain bikers as always, made handling the dog more cumbersome but still a nice trail for a few miles on a beautiful morning.

Showed up around 4:30pm for the first hot hike of the season. Started up Javelina Canyon and really enjoyed the peacefulness. It seems to be the trail less traveled out of the trailhead. Only passed two mountain bikers and a trail runner before hitting the intersection with Ridgeline. Quite a few wildflowers still out and quite a few quail finding refuge in the quieter canyon. It was dry, a bit more rain in the next week or two and this canyon will be yellow again. The four crags on Ridgeline were less steep than they looked. Hustled down Beverly Canyon around 5:45pm and the people were out in droves. Nice sweaty hike, will have to bring the parents on this one.

Took the old man up to sunrise peak. Nice rolling trail as always. Saw less that 15 people the entire time and was able to see down to Picacho Peak on this clear Sunday.

My buddy John and I met at the trailhead around 12:30pm... bit of a late start but we were last minute in planning the day hike. I have always driven past Picacho Peak on the 10 but never stopped for a proper hike and visit. Two cars in the parking lot, it seems more people use the Hunter Trail for the sake of summitting quickly. We didn’t see a single person until we reached the intersection of the Hunter and Sunset Vista trails. Lots of cacti in bloom this day but most of the common yellow brittle bush had dried out as the region hasn’t seen rain in a few weeks. The first climb up to the intersection of the two trails was tough and the loose rock made the trail a bit tougher to move quickly on however, the second to final cable push took it out of me and I ran out of my wind. Took a five minute rest and then pushed for the saddle. He cables were warm but not too hot, if hiking in the heat I would bring a pair of gloves for holding the cables. Hit the summit and then quickly left when some folks showed up with a loud speaker system. The hike back to the parking lot was quick but damn! You keep thinking the lot is around that next corner

The cacti were the only plants in serious bloom up there today... barrel, saguaro, ocotillo to name a few. Some brittle is but most of it has dried out.

Took the pup along to get here back in shape after her sickness. Great climb got her super exhausted but she had fun scrambling up the unsaved side.

Took the pooch up the Quartz Ridge trail. Packed with people and dogs (all on a leash :app: ). Another easy training hike for the dog. However, she ran out of steam just after the trail summit at the 8A/8B fork and it was slow going all the way back. Might save the one for a later training hike for the dog, the climb was a bit much for her getting back into it.

Took the pooch on a winter season training hike. Easy to get turned around on the west side of the loop as there are a few unofficial trails cutting around the buttes. Just stay to the outside of the park the entire hike and you should be in the right spot.

Took a friend from Phoenix up to Fossil Creek for the day. Easy hike from Parking at Tonto Bench. Note that there were a lot of folks with off-leash dogs on the trail... two problems with that: 1) Those dogs were 100% not trained. 2) We came across a Diamondback crossing the road and a guys dog took interest in it off-leash so we had to hold it down until the owner could come up the 300ft he was behind his dog. KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH.

In Utah for work and had a meeting cancel so headed up towards Brighton. Canyon style hike (downhill first half, uphill second and back again) and the mosquitos were horrendous. That said, trail was wide and well-trafficked with several pups on the trail. Decent wildflowers even into August.

Made it to the Call O' The Canyon parking lot around 10:30am and got the dogs ready to go. $11 entry fee or Grand Annual Red Rocks Pass gets you in, America The Beautiful NP Pass not a substitute as it is for other Red Rocks Pass sites. First .25 miles of hiking is on exposed sand which is incredibly hot for the dogs paws during midday. From then on out mostly in the shade. Got to the standard turnaround point and waded up the creek another 300 yards to a nice shallow pool. Let the dogs swim and we cooled off for a few hours... most folks didn't seem to make it all the way to the turnaround point so it was quite quiet. Quite a few young children on the trail as well. Disappointing amount of cairns (no need trail is clear as day), dog poop bags, and picnic trash left behind. Please pack it out and keep your dogs on a leash.

Absolutely love the permit system that the Forest Service has implemented at Fossil Creek. Took a day trip up with some friends and their dog, Wilbur. Walked about 20 minutes in and pulled off at a pool 1/4 mile from the waterfall where there was a tree to jump off and a nice sandbar to sit on in the sun. Great spot for dogs as there is no abrupt drop-off into the pool. Headed up to the waterfall and bruised my tailbone on the highest jumping spot, couldn't get my damn legs underneath me!
