The article seems to have very little official information from the tribe, except a quote saying that the bear is dead. It would be nice to get a little more follow-up on that. I wonder if AZGFD and the SCR&W folks ever collaborate on such things. I know that they are considered totally separate when it comes to hunting.

Black bear attacks in Arizona are quite rare, and I think that previous attacks mentioned here were during very dry years where natural food sources for bears was abnormally scarce. The Point of Pines area didn't get quite the winter that northern Arizona received, but there should still be plenty of foraging available for bears there right now.

That looked like quite an exciting ride. :scared:
I wonder if he or she had done that before and wanted that experience again. :y:

The 2nd Comment is Hilarious....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

Speaking of Bears... Even though the Comments tell what actually was happening here, I think I'd have been more than a bit nervous...lol https://www.backpacker.com/videos-photo ... llow-hiker

So awesome! and funny how the cub just didn't want to do that. How lucky to see something like that!

This is a post worthy of blocking an entire forum topic.

You’ll need ear plugs, patience, and only a marginally kind heart to prevent you from actually rooting for the bear to do more.

@chumley Wow. A five minute fight with a bear? Surprised this wasn’t worse.

In terms of conservation, it seems like the sky is falling lately, but I was happy with this little victory...

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 53561.html
Mr Christensen said the case was “not about the ethics of hunting” but whether federal officials had adequately considered threats to the long-term recovery of the grizzly population
The Montana district judge found the government had failed to apply the best available science, as required by law, in evaluating continued threats to grizzly populations.
In a 47-page ruling, Mr Christensen called the FWS’s reasoning in lifting protections “illogical.” He pointed to two studies cited by the agency that actually contradicted its own conclusions

Just saw this reposted by Rock and Ice. It's a few years old, but damn. The cub has been named "Honnold".

@chumley
Great video... the cub is definitely a Honnold!
I checked out the video description which stated they were endangered Mexican Black Bears.

Scanning the comments on the video, I couldn't help but laugh at this one:
"Mexican bears. Did you read that? They can climb walls."
