Hike Arizona urges anyone interested in searching to post or join an event.
If you go out, please track your hike on a GPS and post it for the benefit of future searches. Simply post it upon return. (if you need help ask the webmaster) Hike Arizona will see that it gets linked to a master map. If you have multiple variations in your group, please post all tracks. As more info is posted the map will evolve and the overlaps will be removed.

Tonto Rim Search and Rescue volunteers and Gila County Sheriff officers are currently searching for an overdue hiker.
The man, whose name has not been released, was last heard from nine days ago and is believed to be hiking near the Mt. Peeley trail or Sheep Mountain, off Forest Road 201, southwest of Payson.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office first received a call that the man was overdue Monday, Nov. 15 about 9 p.m.
“The hiker has not been heard from since Nov. 7 and frequents the Mazatzal Mountain Wilderness area,” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
The missing hiker’s vehicle was located at the Mt. Peeley trailhead.
Six TRSAR volunteers are currently searching the ground. Earlier Tuesday, a Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter did an aerial search of the area, but found no signs of the man

From all indications they should be ok for that now. I'm heading out there in a few minutes but of course I won't be able to post the conditions until I get home this afternoon.
It's quite obvious the Forest Service spent a lot of time on FR201 since the fire and washouts last year, as the conditions are as good as I've ever seen. At the moment even a normal car would have no trouble making it.
One thing I noticed was if felt like there was more exposure along the road than before but then I realized it was because the vegetation that had been there before the fire kind of hid the exposure so one hardly noticed it.

Re: SSAR 4/13 weekend GPSjoe "Clue Search Efforts/Results" - For those following this forum topic, I have not yet received any updates from SSAR for public posting (maybe due to SSAR's needed Search and Rescue efforts for missing Mon-4/15pm Superstition hiker "Christopher Hensley").
I just wanted to apologize to everyone interested in following the SSAR ongoing search results and ongoing search plans for GPSjoe clues. I have followed-up, I have been promised, and they have yet to deliver.. and disappointing.

Thanks John and yes. After the date that TRSAR & MCSO terminated their formal search efforts, both organizations via MCSO provided a detailed report to the Joseph S. Domin family. Since this date, only possible individual TRSAR & MCSO members would then conduct search efforts on their own time. We are presently not aware of any of these SAR members who may now be conducting ongoing search efforts on their own time. I do recall that a few of these original TRSAR & MCSO members had member sign-in avatars on HAZ, but I don't recall seeing any recent triplog, photo, or gps route postings. Our master GPS Route Search Map (which Joe B. maintains ongoing).. http://hikearizona.com/map.php?QX=739 does include the original TRSAR & MCSO submitted GPS Route search efforts.
I will be heading out tomorrow to mostly scope from the saddle but I may also check out some North side spots. If interested pm me for details...I will probably hit the trail by 6am to beat some of the heat.
Gpsjoe is the reason I found HAZ. When I bought my GPS, I was googling info on how to use it and one of Joe's routes came up. I downloaded it and it's still in my etrex. Cave Creek #4 to Spur Cross TH. I plan on doing this one some time this Fall or Spring as an overnighter. Probably more water in the Spring, huh?
Understand, when you eat meat, that something did die. You have an obligation to value it - not just the sirloin but also all those wonderful tough little bits.

Last week, I celebrated another birthday and every time that happens it means another year has passed since Joe went missing. And with every new anniversary, I pray that it will be the year that he will be found.
SSAR is encouraged by a landmark members sighted in an aerial photograph of the area where they are searching for GPS Joe. In the photograph is large X made of two 10-foot-long branches. It could be intentional or accidental.
Interesting that this tidbit was shared for a newspaper article but not here on Hikearizona or maybe it was and I missed it.
Thank you Bob!
Very interesting and hopeful that maybe there will be some findings in 2014 so we all can come to closure.
This past weekend I hiked with some friends from Canyon Lake to FW. Joe loved this hike and once a year Joe and I hiked from FW to Canyon Lake, had lunch, desert, coffee and hiked back. There aren't many trails where one has such a treat available 1/2 way. Sure miss him...
