Biking AZT 40-43

Post by HikerLee »

Hi all,
I'm a hiker and have access to a great mountain bike. I'm trying to knock out some of the flatter/downhill parts of the the AZ trail in less time. I hiked the Passage 38 Grand Canyon inner Gorge last year. This year I'm thinking of starting at the North Rim (Passage 39) and head North as far as I can make it -- hopefully to Utah. Looking at the profile illustration, Passage 39 looks like a substantial up hill for much of the passage so I don't think that I am skilled enough to bike that. But could a novice mountain biker do Passages 40-43 in a few days since it is mostly downhill? I in no way am trying to undermine the skills of a seasoned mountain biker but want to ask so I don't get myself in over my head and put myself in danger. Thanks for any input you may have.

Friendly topic bump incase someone in the know missed it.

Can't say for biking. Tuscon & Phoenix section hikers often knock these out in a few days being far away and forgiving grades northbound. You might get a feel for the terrain in these fairly well spaced collective slideshows.

@HikerLee

Found nada on the AZT website, but Here's a Youtube that might give you some idea. And Darwin, the guy in the video is a hiker, not a biker by any means.

@Mountain_Rat Thanks for the video. We decided to hike from 39 to Jacobs Lake and bike from Jacobs Lake to Utah (downhill!)
