The altarpiece was started in 1537, and the sculptor died in 1540, being finished by his disciples in 1545.
The predella is made of alabaster, but the rest of the altarpiece is made of walnut wood. It truly is remarkable. It would be nice if someday AI can show us how they carved one of the streets (kind of like screens).

The 1500s altarpiece has nine streets, of which three on each side are basically pillars with figures of saints, biblical characters, Nereids, Tritons, which tell us about the influence of Castilian sculpture, two side streets to the right and left have passages from the life of Christ and a beautiful central street and is four stories high above the alabaster predella.
