The existence of the henhouse is documented in the cathedral since 1350 and since then there is a live rooster and hen in it that are renewed once a week. First they were in a corral where the pilgrims fed them as a symbol of good luck and since 1460 in this henhouse that was built for that purpose.

A miracle is attributed to Dominic according to which two beheaded cooked chickens resurrected to testify in favor of a pilgrim wrongly accused of theft. A pair of descendants of the chickens are kept at all times in the choir loft of the cathedral. Other descendants are kept in the local pilgrimage refuge. ISN"T THAT SOMETHING, quite the ancestry going on here.
