What a beautiful building! I thought it might be a grainery but it is not. I have several pictures of it. We would paddle by too. We're still heading to our docking area which is just past here a tad.
Saint Marys Falls Hydropower Plant, also known as the Edison Sault Power Plant, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
The plant is constructed of steel and red sandstone excavated from the power canal.
The main building is over a quarter-mile long and contains 74 turbines.
Opened in 1902, it is one of the oldest large generating stations still operating in the USA.
It extracts water from the St. Marys River to generate 18-MW of hydroelectric power.
