Here we are going by the incredible historic quarter-mile long, 80 foot wide Saint Marys Falls Hydropower Plant (or Edison Sault Power Plant), a significant Gilded Age engineering marvel built in 1902 (making it one of the largest low-head hydro facilities of its time.), using red sandstone from the St. Marys River to generate clean, renewable energy for the Upper Peninsula, housing numerous generators ( Features 74 horizontal shaft turbines and generators) and still operating today under Cloverland Electric Cooperative.
