Day Two, beach walk next to the old Kona airport runway.
A blooming plant on the sandy beach.
Ipomoea pes-caprae, commonly known as beach morning glory or Pōhuehue, is a prostrate vine native to Hawaii, including the Big Island. It thrives along sandy beaches, is highly salt-tolerant, and can be found from sea level to about 2,000 feet in elevation.
Pōhuehue vines were also used for crafting ropes, lei, and in fishing practices, and the roots/leaves were consumed during times of famine.
