South Point, also known as Ka Lae, is the southernmost point of the Big Island and the United States. It's a rugged, wind-swept area with dramatic cliffs, ocean currents, and historic sites.
History: It's believed to be one of the first places where Polynesians landed in Hawaii.

The Pakini Nui Wind Farm, located near South Point on the Big Island of Hawaii, features 14 General Electric 1.5 Mega-Watt SE turbines. This wind farm, operational since April 2007, generates approximately 21 MW of electricity, according to Tawhiri Power. It's located about 7 miles down South Point Road from its junction with Route 11. The area is known for strong, consistent trade winds, making it a prime location for wind energy.
