UL While "mimosa tree" is a common name for the Albizia julibrissin, it's also used to refer to the Mimosa pudica, also known as the sensitive plant. In Hawaii, both are considered invasive, with Albizia being particularly problematic on the Big Island. Albizia, also called the silk tree, has become a major issue, causing damage and posing safety risks after storms, according to the Big Island Invasive Species Committee. Mimosa pudica, while also present, is more of a nuisance weed.
