| partners | | This was our morning outing, the first of two planned for this first full day of seven days in Death Valley National Park.
This interesting canyon, located in the southern Funeral Mountains, is the northern most of several canyons draining through Hole-in-the-Wall. This little known canyon located beyond Hole-in-the-Wall has several long and beautiful narrows. The nearly mile long lower narrows, carved in polished gray limestone are among the nicest and most extensive in the park. It has impressive falls, a shaded grotto, and the canyon's namesake- a straight corridor no more than 5 feet wide.
This day due to me neglecting to bring my 30 foot rope (to lift up/down our heavy day packs), this hike ended at 1.6 miles in, at the Slit area past the scenic and challenging Grotto Falls area just before the 50 foot "gatekeeper" falls which is within the beginning of the ~1 mile one way First Narrows section. |
