I first discovered this remote area last Jan 1, 2009, and soon after completed this subject HAZ Hike Description. Upon arriving at our New Years Day'09 ending destination.. http://www.hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=82624 I knew I had to return to try and find a way above this 40' Waterfall Class 3 Area to see all that was beyond.
This Christmas Day'09 was my planned return hike. I knew I needed another adventurous hiker to join me and fortunately our HAZ-nonot(Steve) was interested. We started in at 10am from what I call the TH Start at the intersection of FR172/Main Byous Butte Drainage which is very close to the TH Parking area at Byous Spring/FR172 (see my posted GPS Route for all details). Steve led the way and with his good eye for canyoneering and after some scrambling up the NW side of this Class 3 area.. http://www.hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=117260 ,we successfully made our way up to part-of what I had waited a year to see.. http://www.hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=117265 .
On my attached pic set I have included a considerable amount of pic caption detail to help add some clarity to this most enjoyable, remote, and scenic area to explore. My sincere thanks to Steve for joining me and with his partial loop hike idea to connect with my Saddle#1 hiking route back to our campsite (as opposed to hiking back out the way we came in), I/we now have a whole new remote area opened-up to explore for my next trip here .. http://www.hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=117271 |
