Also, some wonderful rain and cooler tempts today which I had not seen or felt in months. A good opportunity to juggle some of my rain gear while hiking which I hardly ever have an opportunity to do and learn how to better do.
Prior-to this trip I had not hiked or done any exercising for twenty-nine days. There was a time not that long ago that I could get away with not exercising for a long period like this, then plan a hike like this one and do it without pain after.. Well, I guess those days are over as this hike after sitting around for almost a month between hikes really did teach me a good lesson. For a 1st day hike coming from 1200' to 9300', this hike has a lot of "ups and downs" in 5.4mls each way with 2100+ ft AEG and the coming back out- UP sections were painful and slow.
Prior to this hike today, I had grand visions of attempting the Humphreys Peak Summit Hike the next day.. I scrapped those plans soon after arriving at our motel for the night. Luckily if I could still make it out of bed the next morning, I had a good plan "B" to join Joe on his Humphreys B-24 Bomber Crash Site Hike. |
