| no partners | | Four of us went up Picketpost Mountain today. This was my first trip to the summit. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I was plesantly surprised at the challenge and pucker factor for this hike. There were several hairy spots that placed you right next to a solid drop. On top of that the rock is loose and there are plenty of cacti to keep you on your toes. I think I grabbed for several thiking they were rocks and quickly discovered differently! Route finding is also an ongoing challenge. Whenever in doubt we stood back and surveyed fo the next move. The trail has cairns and several arrows that help point the way.
We worked our way and finally reached the summit. We enjoyed the views and ate some lunch. From there we slowly and carefully made our way down. We took our time and followed the path of least resistance. There appear to be multiple ways to go...similar to Flatiron. Eventually it leveled off and we cruised back to the car. Another great day on the trails!
I would not recommend this trail to anyone with a fear of heights. Lots of rock scrambling that puts you right on the edge! |
