I started South Kaibab around 7:20am. Made my way down and ended up taking the Tonto Trail towards Bright Angel. This was my first time on the Tonto Trail. It is a lot more rugged compared to Kaibab & Bright Angel. I made my way across and only say three other people along the way. I took a rest at Indian Garden and prepared for the final assault to the rim. I started making my way up and found that I was making great time. I got all the way to the 1.5 mile rest house and ended up taking a break. After eating some food and drinking a bunch of water I made my way to the top. I met Cheryl right by the Kolb Studio at a few minutes past 1pm.
It was a great day and I really enjoyed the Tonto Trail. I plan on checking out some other portions of the trail in the near future. It's a great route if you don't want to see a lot of people like you do on Kaibab & Bright Angel.
After the hike was done, Cheryl and I headed back to the car and made our way out the east park exit. We stopped for photos at the Grandview Trail and the Desert View. From there we made our way back to Phoenix and were home before dark. |
