It's amazing how much color there is in this canyon. Just driving up the forest road you can see bright yellows and reds popping up all over the place out of the dark green ponderosa, spruce, and fir. The aspens are mostly all green still, though there are signs of them starting to turn in places, and the oaks are still weeks away.
Saw a blue Tacoma at the trailhead, and it had HAZ printouts on the floor, so I left a note on the windshield. I thought it might be ToughBoots since I knew he was going to be in the area over the weekend so my note said "Toughboots? Happy HAZ-ing! Chumley was here".
Sure enough, I encountered Toughboots about half an hour later hiking on the General Crook Trail, ahem, I mean Rim Road. Now the mystery is who's truck I left a note on! I hope a triplog or some photos get posted so I'll know! Anyway, I will definitely plan a hike in this area in the middle of October next year. It's an absolute gem! |
