| no partners | | What a beautiful morning! Frost covering the grass on parts of the meadow, and the leaves are almost in their prime! I started from FR 161B, went down the west canyon, up to the cabins, then back to the truck via the east fork and along 161B. I was figuring it'd be a quick hike since it's fairly level and good terrain. Went about 50 feet off the road and was floored by the pinks and yellows in the trees. Found myself stopping about every 30 feet for pictures. Nearly all of the fall colors are in the two canyons at the southern part of the hike. The northern part up to the cabins was still well worth the minimal effort, though.
The water in the creek was not flowing at all and looked gamey, so avoid it unless you're really in a bind. I had no trouble at all crossing pretty much wherever I pleased. On the way in, I came via FR 95, and took the Rim Road out. If you value your spine and your car, avoid the Rim Road. Numerous annoyingly rough sections, and one or two places where a low car might have issues. The way I came in was I-17 -> SR 260 east -> SR 87 north -> FR 95, 96, 137, and 161B. No issues at all on this route, and a car will be fine on all of these roads when dry. |
