| partners | | Every year for Deb's birthday, I take her on a fall color hike. Usually it's a week later than this, but this is the only weekend that worked for us.
We'd done this one a couple of times before and it worked out great.
This year, we probably hit it a week or 2 early. Some color, but not the explosion of color like in years past. We heard a lot of elk bugling, and saw quite a few. The weather was perfect, but a tad windy.
On the way out, on FR 95, at about 45mph-ish, I saw 4 cow elk close to the side of the road. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a huge 10 x 10 ish Bull in a full run coming at them and cross the road right in front of me. I locked it up and missed him by 5ft. He face planted on the other side of the road, in a cloud of dust. Quite the scene. He got up, a bit embarrassed and continued on. |
