It's especially awe-inspiring when the early morning light reflects sharply off of a wall of sandstone, only to be refracted through a grove a golden maples--- glorious! The wade through the subway was incredibly cold. Hiked another mile (maybe unless) until I would have had to wade again. The hike out made me appreciate the solitude of the hike in even more. It was a zoo, of course. It wasn't terrible except for the group of French women that I followed for a good quarter mile before they had the courtesy to let me pass. As I got closer and closer to the trailhead, the fancier the photography equipment became. I saw at least two 4x5 large format film cameras, and what looked to be a medium format camera (possibly digital). Of course, this was after 10 o'clock when the light was, in my opinion, sub-par. My dinky $700 kit dSLR did me just fine in the nice early morning light, thank you! Not that I wouldn't trade it for a 5dMkII.... |
