Went to check out the lower southeast slopes of Black Top Mesa.
I wanted to match up Barry Storm's location photos of where Adolph Ruths remains where found by Tex Barkley back on Jan 8th 1932. It's amazing that virtually nothing has changed in terrain yet the vegetation has a different feel. Saguaro's are now more abundant in the surrounding area. Mesquites seem fewer and far between.
Ely stated that the earthquake of May 1887 destoyed the great spring at Marsh Valley. Though a short distance away this may have altered the habitat and fauna of the area a bit. |
