Also slit canyon in the Funeral mtns as part of the Death Valley 2011 trip. This area is relatively easily accessed with the right vehicle and not far from Furnace Creek. The mining camp is interesting and there are petroglyphs nearby. The Furnace Mine can be accessed from either the Inyo Mine side or driving your vehicle a short distance on the Armagosa road split ( rougher than the Echo canyon route) and hiking up and old burro trail or just go straight up when you see the furnace near the ridgeline ( as we did)
Slit canyon is written up in a guide book. It is a nice and narrow canyon in mostly dolomitic limestone with just enough scrambling and scenic quality to make it interesting.
