| no partners | | You don't have to use a rope to enjoy sections of this canyon. About three years ago Brian and I went down the lower end via an endless scree slope, hiked up the bottom to the last fall then scrambled up a long but steppy exit. This time we went in and out the Cadillac route. We went early to beat the heat, having camped nearby. We went upcanyon to the first small slide fall, the canyon had pools but no running water at this time. Brian took a ledge bypass and continued up a little ways, I stayed with the dog. I was taking a lot of pictures too. Then we went downcanyon, the next significant pouroff, with webbing in place around the tree, can be bypassed to the left, with a nasty ravine downclimb. We continued on a little farther, getting hotter, wetted down and came back.
Later we went up and talked to Jim the firelookout on McFadden Peak. What a view! Then we hiked a little up the Horse Mcfadden trail then took off off trail for a bit.
Unfortunately helicopters and planes started up and we were stopped ( along with most traffic coming out of Young) by forest law enforcement asking about our whereabouts. No doubt some idiot had started a fire north of there. Hope it is out. |
