| partners | | (Finally adding photos much later!!) Went clockwise, going down Bright Angel, across Tonto to the east, and up South Kaibab.
Snow level on trail goes below 3 mile house on BA and below Cedar on SK. However, we did not find we needed to use our crampons.
So, now I have completed one more little section of the Tonto, which was my main objective of this hike--just filling in the blanks. As it so often is in the cool months, the Tonto was very pleasant. Beautiful views, and the slanted winter light gave a lot of definition to all the buttes and towers. Pipe Creek was running--what a nice place to stop for lunch! T-shirts on the Tonto, but the rest of the hike was cold. Several layers necessary! Jim forgot his beanie, alas!
Going up the Kaibab, things got progressively colder as we topped over the Redwall. Sideways wind threatened to blow me off the hogback. But it was fun, anyway! |
