Just a walk in the park until you hit the switchbacks - and then OMG. I had 24lbs in my backpack. So I was not jetting up the Pumpkin Switchbacks. Hallelujah - got to the top and explored. Went over and touched The Thumb. Saw Doug, with whom Eric & I had hiked to Cheyava Falls. I stopped him with some lame comment "Did we hike in Grand Canyon?". A nice chat, but messed up my record time to the top He is hiking Tanner to Colorado next week. I explained that I was "Heat Hardening". 95degrees is a good training temperature. Warm enough to pull the salt out and cake it on my shirt and face, but not hot enough to bust my tricks. I use MSR 4ltr water bags in my training packs. I probably should have dumped one out since I am feeling the hike, but I'm glad I trained. I fear that I need new boots before my Havasupai trip. These Lowas are breaking down. |
