cindyl emailed that a group from Tucson was going to camp at Roosevelt and summit Brown's Peak. I thought it would be great opportunity to meet some of our Tucson brethren so I jumped at the chance.

As I waited at the TH a group of 12 trucks and 2 dozen people showed up. They were led by Mike & Jerry - the current operators of Amethyst Mine. They were customers & friends and were getting a guided tour inside the mine. I almost tagged along but had no way to contact cindy l. I've got the info and might try for next year. Nice chat with Chuck Byers - he had the M-1956 LCE he had earned - talk about a classic. One of those "I remember when ..."

Johnr1 arrived. Then cindyl and RWStorm arrived followed by jrnorb and kim. The winds were kicking up. I joked with Cindy and Randy about Cindy wearing my climbing helmet. I didn't realize that Johnr1 was taking his. John, Randy & I had climbed Brown's many times, but this would be a first for Cindy, Joel & Kim.

We started to Brown's Saddle with Kim taking lots of macro photos of flowers.

At the base of the scree chute, Kim decided she wanted nothing to do with it today because of the winds. Winds were steady in the mid-30kts and gusting about 40kts. So Randy stayed behind with her. The wind wasn't too bad climbing up the chute. John was on lead. Cindy next, and I was helping Cindy if she needed it. Joel on sweep. Easy and slow getting to the Summit.

Cindy pulled out the Four Peaks Kiltlifter Ale for her signature photo. And realized that Randy had the bottle opener. So much for the victory celebration. Storms were brewing so we cut it short and headed down.

It started snowing as we started down the chute. Slow & careful down the chute and back to the saddle where we met up with Kim, Randy & Joel. Snow coming down pretty substantially and winds still strong.

Got back to the TH. The bottle and the bottle opener were reunited and we sat and talked for a while. The group got back from the Mine and I talked with one of the jewelers and looked at some photos of the Amethyst veins.

Great group, a great time and a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable hike. Who would'a thunk it would snow in Maricopa County on May 2nd.

The road from the Beeline suffered quite a bit of erosion and degradation from the rains this past winter. At least it seemed worse than I remember it from last year.
