This canyon is a little out of season with it being so HOT in verde valley and the water flow mostly gone, but a local friend talked me into taking him down this canyon and it was tough not to jump on the offers of a free bed the night before, shuttle ride to the top, and hot tub afterwards. :D It was obviously much easier to drop in from the upper TH than making the long sun exposed hike up from the bottom and it was nice to sleep in a bit also instead of the usual crack of dawn start. :) We hit the upper narrows soon enough that still had pools and some light flow in places and eventually the big 160ft rappel. The canyon is full of slippery rock while making the many down climbs and loads of rock hopping. I brought my short rope for the short drops and used it soon afterwards. Eventually you hit the next cool falls where we just down climbed around the first drop and rappel the remaining 40ft replacing my sun bleached anchor from last year and removing some old trashy webbing. A little further down we reached the sweet 120ft angled mossy falls; def my fav rappel of the canyon. :D Cleaned & stuffed my 200ft rope since we wouldn't need it for the lower narrows just around the corner. The water level was down 3-5ft in some pools of the narrows but still loads of fun! :) They required some pool bypasses, down climbs, cool swims, short jumps into pools, and one short rappel before the canyon opened back up. Normally we'd continue down canyon until it reached the road, but this crazy local took us up a steep, loose, and pokey scramble up to the Black Canyon trail to make an easier return via the trail instead of the never-ending rock hop.
