Our original plans were to do the Kendrick/Bull Basin/Pumpkin lasso but weather made us change our plans at the last minute. It looked like the storms weren't going to hit the Prescott area until later in the afternoon so we figured with an hour of less driving we could get in and get out early to avoid the storms. This sure didn't work.

We headed up the trail. The first four or five miles are not too impressive except for the views of the canyon. Its the couple miles before the turnaround point at FR413 which are the real gem-- big pines and the creek which had water in it today. It looked to me from the dragonflies and other life around that there must typically be water here year round-- correct me if I'm wrong. We turned back around at the forest road and we quickly started seeing signs of weather coming in. We stopped for a quick snack and then put the pedal to the metal.

It ended up pouring on us for about an hour. Hiking in rain is great but then the thunder started... and then the lightning started. There was absolutely nowhere to get cover so we just kept moving and made pretty amazing time. We hiked directly under the edge of the storm and had we started maybe a half our earlier, we probably would have avoided the whole mess.

All in all its a pretty good hike. It reminded me a lot of the Mazzies. If I ever do it again, it will be in the spring when there's water in the canyon. I'm sure its a much more beautiful hike then.
