The road in was wet in few spots but easily passed. We watched the storm going over Humphries and we were 2 minutes from the top of Slate Mountain when had to shelter on the opposite side to the storm for 30 minutes as it passed. The whole time we could see the Painted Desert in the sunshine, It rained really heavily. The trail down was ok when wet as it seemed to be gravel but the trailhead was muddy, very sticky mud. Going out to the road was slow and slippery. Looking at Humphries going the 180 we could see that it looked like it had snow on it, IN JULY.
