| no partners | | So after my little shoe fiasco on the Kachina Trail I decided to go buy different pair. I was on my way up to the Grand Canyon for Saturdays Hike when I passed Slate Mountain turnoff. Oh wait I had read about this one. I pull over, grab my book, 4.8 miles. Ideal! I can thow on the new shoes and break them in and then possibly use them instead of my tennies for the GC.
From 180 it is 2 miles down the dirt road to the Trailhead. About a half a mile in BAM my car high centers on the dirt road. I would say some passenger cars would be able to make it up the road just fine. NOT MINE! Heat Diffusers from my differential are still on the road. I back out of the situation and park on the side of the road. Open the trunk and slip on the shoes. Off I go heading towards Slate Mountain. I pass several cattle grazing and eventually come to the Trailhead. It is dusk and I am satisfied that this shoes are much better so I head back to the car.
I will return soon and hike up to the Summit of Slate Mountain as it looks like a fun trail. I just won't drive my car past the half mile mark. |
