| no partners | | Road trip to do some hiking, camping, moteling, and sightseeing in Colorado. Visited with some friends who were up there as well. Left Tucson on Tuesday morning the 16th and camped the first night at Echo Amphitheater near Abiquiu. Wednesday I went into Colorado via Cumbres Pass and spent some time chasing the train out of Chama. https://www.youtube.com/user/RWX316#p/u/15/u02s_icmsyk
From there it was up to meet up with some hiking friends who were staying at Twin Lakes. Camped the second night along the Clear Creek Road. Thursday we hiked out of Missouri Gulch. Stayed at a motel in Buena Vista Thursday night and partied with my friends.
Friday I decided to take a long way back home and check out some new roads in Colorado. Took highway 82 through Aspen to Carbondale, then headed south to Delta and Montrose. At that point I was back on roads I have traveled in the past. Passed through always pleasant Ridgeway on my way for a brief visit with friends who were staying in Telluride. Made it as far as Cortez Friday night where I got a motel for the night. Saturday morning it was over to Durango, where my timing was right to catch the morning train leaving for Silverton. https://www.youtube.com/user/RWX316#p/u/10/pFMqp1ckWXg
From there I took the long way home via Aztec, Albuquerque, Socorro, and Hatch. That was to be able to stop and get some green chiles and have them roasted, as well as make a loop drive out of the trip. That's something I almost always try to do when on the road. Lots of wild weather made the drive back interesting, as I covered 720 miles on that last day. It was another great trip and I'm ready for more! |
