However, a big contingent from Take a Hike in Phoenix was coming down to tackle the mountain, so I wanted to be in the area to say hello to people. Turns out I ran into a bunch from SAHC as well, so that kind of made my day. I started hiking about 8 AM and made the peak just before 11. I was the only one on top at that time. It was too sunny and warm to linger there, so I dropped back down to Baldy Saddle to hang out and wait for the Phoenix folks to start showing up. They left pretty late, so most of them weren't hiking until 10 AM. Very warm in the lower part of the hike by then, and no clouds to help out. I decided I had rested enough at Baldy Saddle, so I went back to the peak with some of them. Fortunately by the time we started heading down the mountain (after 1 PM), thunderstorms were firing up and we at least had some cloud cover and breezes in the lower part. |
