| no partners | | I usually start my day with a banana and a bowl of some kind of kids cereal. But today, it was huge pancakes from scratch,eggs over easy, and bacon. Didn't have room for the banana..so it went in my pack for a snack. JJ3 picked me up at 730am and we were off. It was awesome that John could help shuttle me. Thanks again John...it was much appreciated.We saw some deer on the drive over.
I filled my bladder with some frosty Roaring Springs water(it was going to be turned off at noon today). I headed down a few steps on the N.Kaibab trail....now I can say I've been on it. I set off across the road for my hike. I slowly jogged thru Harvey's Meadow to warm up...it was pretty chilly. When I hit the short road section, I was passed for the first time. I didn't know they let RV's on the AZT  . After that it was mostly single track along the road. At one point, you hit this incredible steep road section and you are switchbacked thru single track. It made me wonder how vehicles climbed that section in a time long passed.
Once on top, there was more road but it wasn't of the dusty variety. I was really diggin this section but knew it was coming to an end soon. I picked up my cache at the entrance and headed up the fire road. I decided to tack on the side trip to the Lookout Tower. It added an extra .2 miles. The part next to the boundary was really nice. They had done some recent thinning back there. Most of the aspens in this area were totally naked. Another section of the AZT completed |
