Cindy Z with SAHC lead this one and we did it her favorite way, which is to park at the small trailhead along Ajo Way, take the trail to a point near the east end of the mountain and bushwhack up to the main ridge. Then follow the spine up to the top. After our break we came down along the ridge extension on the north side of the peak, breaking off to the northeast partway down, and heading for the trail below. We then followed the trail back to the cars. It seemed more difficult this way, so I still like starting from Tucson Estates and going up the ridge to the peak and walking down the spine, then trail back. Just personal preference, as all ways provide quite the bushwhack/scramble adventure. A fun little loop hike (but don't let your guard down)! |
