Only minor injuries were reported, which is an accomplishment in itself. Most of the kids (and adults) weren't ready for the uphill part of the hike. Many quotes of "I'll never make it" and "I'll never go hiking again" were spoken, but most soon forgotten once the hiking was complete. The pace picked up considerably on the downhill return thank goodness because the uphill pace was only about 1 mph. This was my second time helping out with this event. The first was four years ago when my neighbor over slept and missed the bus. I volunteered to take him to the trailhead and hike with him. We caught up with the main group just before Fremont Saddle. I handed him off to his teacher so I could take the Cave trail back. Had a good time today. Patience is a virtue. |
