| no partners | | After the snowstorm in the forecast put a damper on my Grand Canyon plans, I tried to salvage what time I had before the storm rolled in. I was already in Flagstaff for work, so I decided on an overnighter in Sedona. I have never really hiked in Sedona, whenever I've visited it's been with non-hiking family. I contacted my friend Kimberlie who grew up there to ask her for suggestions and decided on Secret Canyon.
First, I stopped off and hiked Devil's Bridge. I was hoping that most of the tourons wouldn't make it to the trailheads down the road. Thankfully, there were very few people seen on the Secret Canyon Trail. The trail was easy and lined with blooming manzanita. Spent the day exploring around the red rocks and found a great campsite above the trail with wonderful views. In the morning, I hiked up Secret Canyon until super-strong winds began to kick in and the temperature dropped. Didn't make it all the way to the waterfall, but got to see a pretty little seep. There were pools in the upper part of the canyon, probably tons more water now since the storm. I really enjoyed my first foray into the red rocks and junipers of Sedona and will be back for more. |
