Beautiful scenery with the fall colors against the red rock. The drive in does require at least a stock 4x4. Although we did see a 2011ish Mustang attempting it (not sure what that guy was thinking). Even the stock two wheel drive 1500 opted to bench it and join us for the remainder of the road.

At the trailhead there were a few cars and a couple organizing their day packs to begin. We headed out on the relatively well maintained trail. After a few miles the trail veers into a canyon and the trail becomes less maintained but still easy to follow. At one point we missed a turn due to the amount of new fallen leaves on the trail. Easily corrected we carried on.

After a few more miles and a few "Sedona Switchbacks" (trail designers opted for a straight up approach to some of the inclines, luckily these were very short). While following/crossing through the creek beds keep your eyes peeled for poison oak as there appeared to be a decent amount (at least thats the conclusion the group came to). After a little over five miles we stopped for lunch and enjoyed the scenery.

After we headed back the way we came. There was little wildlife observed, except for when we driving back out the road. There we saw a small group of two large Javelinas and a baby that was about the size of a cat.

This area was very quiet with the exception of the tourist helicopters and would make for a great beginners overnighter (pending you locate or haul in water). If you are looking for a quiet trail in Sedona this is the hike (just don't go when I plan on going).
