Took my time ascending, taking everything in and taking photos with the nice cloud action that kept the light decent. The sun came out for the off-trail segment, and it felt HOT by the time I reached the summit. At the summit I actually worried for a second that I didn't bring enough water. Fortunately, resting at the summit allowed me to cool down some despite the sun beating on me. The clouds came back to block the sun for much of the descent, and I continued to take my time, so the amount of water I brought (3 liters) was actually perfect. I wouldn't want to do this hike on any hotter of a day though as it felt pretty brutal during the last push to the summit. I will say that this hike turned out better than I expected...I guess Baldy Mountain is just the tip of the iceberg for the Hieroglyphics as I was pretty impressed today. I want to go explore more, but alas it is April and the temps will only continue to creep dangerously higher. Mileage and AEG are taken from my GPS. |
