| partners | | We met Barrett at a secret rendevous but before he pulled in we were greeted by several men with guns. They asked Denny and I where we were going and if we wanted them to come look for us if my car was there for more than a day. Our ride showed up late(2 minutes) per usual. Then we headed on the highway to hell(see pic 1). The boys up front were nice and comfy and they mocked me every chance they got. The plan was to hike a peak or two and we accomplished our goal.
Before the hike our guide took us all over showing the various landmarks and places where not to start the hike. At 630am, we were at the trailhead that we had previously passed by. The trail welcomes you with a sign in and a sign welcoming you to hell. Denny was todays' sign model and did a bang uo job. You start on a trail for a while and then head off trail towards the summit. The climb was hot and humid but there wasn't too much whining. We decided to have a snack in the shade just off the summit and chilled for a while. Next it was on to Lt. Governors peak which is close by and a little lower.
Finding a route to Salvation took some time and we cliffed out and had to backtrack a few times. We finally broke thru a rock layer and it was smooth travels from there on out. I was expecting to see an Army on Salvation but it was empty. Its a pretty cool peak with a flagpole. I think the flag was from the Coan era. Barrett and I climed the rocks and we discovered a laddder route which we coaxed Denny to take. The views all day were pretty
sweet. The route off Salvation was scary steep and I don't think I'd go that way again. I had one mishap that involved two huge boulders; one of which hit my calf as my life was flashing neon green. As we were hiking back to the truck, Barrett points out a coyote that was really a bobcat . Bobcats are super cool and this one was no exception. We also passed some guys unloading ammo at a poor innocent paper target.
All-in-all, it was a fun day with good company and good snacks. |
