| no partners | | My plan was to seek out snakes sunning to warm up for the day but due to a delay (see below) I got started a bit late and only encountered one gopher snake.
The delay: I was going to drive out toward Bagley Tank from the gate just off Apache Trail but the lock code wasn't correct. (Maybe the code wasn't changed from April and I did not remember it so couldn't try it.) So I went to the next gate closer toward Apache Junction and the code worked on this one and I got through. I followed FR1356 to the FR3512 intersection, where I stopped, trying to decide which way I'd go. When I glanced onto FR3512 heading south I saw the gopher snake sunning itself on the road. Although some distance away I got out and took a full-zoom shot just in case it took off before I got closer. Good thing I did for even though I started walking slowly and carefully on the balls of my feet it wasn't but a few steps and it shot away. Oh well, I got one shot anyway.
But realizing it was probably getting too warm to find any more snakes sunning themselves, I decided to head north on FR3152, which was new-to-me. It was quite challenging and slow-going but it was fun. Eventually I got to an area that I felt I'd need a spotter to continue, but being alone I figured it was time to turn around. On the return trip I took a short hike into some interesting smooth-rock areas.
I'll post a dozen or so photos here on HAZ but the full set of 26 photos is here:
