| partners | | We set out on an afternoon of exploration with plenty of time on our hands after our Rockinstraw Mountain and Horseshoe Bend hikes:

First we headed over toward Shute Springs which we had hoped to hike along the ridge as well today but after dealing with so many fox-tails earlier, our hiking was over for the day. On the way I took what I thought was a road to connect into FR223 (Shute Springs Road) only for it to deteriorate to very eroded ATV track, maybe for hunting? However, in my search for a place wide enough to turn around we continued on. And found a 'back' way up Rockinstraw Mountain. Cool! I'll balance the more and rougher driving with a much easier climb any day. I'm already planning on going back out to that area while the temps are reasonable... maybe tomorrow?
Anyway, back out to FR219 so I can get back on FR223 as first intended. We followed it all the way to Shute Springs where there were some great views of the Salt River area and especially of Black Mesa across the river to the south.
