Well worth it! I picked up my mom who lives in Dewey on the way and we set off. We took our time heading up and checked out some of the mines on the way up (there still are active claims in the area). At the saddle I had a blond moment and made a left onto trail #284 instead of a right. It didn't take us to long before we figured out we were going the wrong way since we were headed back down hill instead of up. Headed back on track we made the final stretch to the top of Mount union. The fire lookout was not maned when we got up to the top, but the views from the summit were just as amazing as I thought they would be! It was really windy and the air had a slight chill to it that felt nice. We took a nice break at the top and enjoyed a snack before heading back down. On the way down we saw a few blue birds and caught the site of the beautiful male western tanager bird. I really enjoyed this hike and can't wait to get up there again! |
