It's only about 0.1 miles to the first ruin and the road splits a few different ways. See plot of GPS track.
Al_HikesAZ previously posted a GPS track starting here but that trip focussed on exploring the Brooklyn mine - I checked out the ruins and the associated petroglyphs. The ruins are mainly rubble but it's clear this was a happening place 700 years ago: four separate sites are roughly in a line. They look like overgrown mounds from the ground but are easily recognizable in the satellite view available from HAZ and Route Manager.
From the first ruin I dropped down below the edge to look at the cliff band and there is an excellent petroglyph display for quite some distance...I think I got tired of looking before the glyphs ran out. I made a loop coming back to the rim and walked through the other 3 ruins on the way back to the car.
Particularly the first ruin is popular with casual visitors and shotgun shells and clay targets are mixed with the shards...that's too bad. |
