| partners | | Bob led me up into Hansenland in search of sherds and rocks. Apparently this was a wish list thing that I didn't know about and I got to put faces to a couple of familiar HAZ names. We set off from a convenient parking area to make our way toward the ridge.
Temps had dropped into the 20s on the drive in but recovered to a balmy 35 on the initial climb. Cloudiness and a steady breeze assured that I would remain clad in my poofy, beanie and gloves for all but a few minutes a couple of times all day.
We are all accustomed to doing our own thing, but did a poor job communicating with each other and ended up taking different routes and goals. Amy's friend John had her visiting a some random reds and blues, while I was in it for the historic artifacts and Bob was glassing for deer. Peter split the difference.
Cloudy days are delightful and far too rare around here, so I find it difficult to complain, so I will simply state the verifiable fact: it was cold. The views along this route were way better than expected, and I was able to set eyes on a few more intriguing goals in this part of the world. Time to make some plans...
Bob and I took a side trip to an unnamed peak with nice views down into Middle Fork. A large reflective area sure looked like water, but by all logic had to be bedrock or something else, because there can't possibly be water out there right now.
A quick road walk back to the cars completed an enjoyable day. It was great to meet Peter and Amy and to get better acquainted with this part of the world. |
