This road is really rough, even for a quad. We drove about an hour, maybe a little more, to an area on the river full of trees, and a great fishing hole. I hiked for about an hour around the river bottom, looking for signs of wildlife. Lots of birds, deer sign, cattle, etc. We caught a few fish, the river is flowing here, but really low. The river is not flowing at all at the Winkelman bridge, though. It's beautiful rough country there, I'm really disappointed though - my camera battery was dead! Oh well, next time!
Birds sited: Western Kingbird, various sparrows, unknown species of ducks (couldn't see them clearly enough), Great Blue Heron, Kildeer, Gambel's Quail, Curve Billed Thrasher, Gila Woodpeckers, and a little green finch type bird I couldn't identify. Good times!
Edited to say: Military jets from Davis Monthan AFB (I assume) were practicing maneuvers above our heads - they were flying low and pretty loud. This is not a trip to make if you are looking for quiet, because it was definitely not quiet that day. Myself, I don't mind it, but many might. |
